UM, AND SPEAKING WITH JOSH BRUIN, IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE, UH, CORN HOLE, THE ADULT EXERCISE AREA AND THE SLIDES THAT WILL BE IN THE BASINS, UM, AVAILABLE MAYBE NOT UNTIL THE END OF JUNE, BUT THAT IS THE GOAL.

THE, UH, THE DE TILLOCK CHAPEL, UH, FULL BACKGROUND IS IN YOUR HISTORICAL LANDMARK DESIGNATION APPLICATION, UH, AS TOLD IN THE STORY OF, UH, CHAPEL OF TILLOCK AND OASIS OF HISTORY AND SERENITY.

UM, THE CHAPEL PORTION OF TILLOCK ARTS AND SHOPPING VILLAGE WAS CREATED BY ABE MILLER.

UH, HE WAS A TRAVELER THAT LOVED TO OBSERVE ARTISANS AT WORK IN THE SMALL VILLAGES THAT HE VISITED.

UM, MR. MILLER HIRED WORKERS THAT HE FELT DISPLAYED HEART AND ENTHUSIASM FOR THIS PROJECT AND WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED IN DESIGN, AESTHETICS, SYMBOLISM, UH, AND A REFLECTION OF THE MEXICAN CULTURE IS VISIBLE IN EVERY DETAIL OF THE CHAPEL OF TILAK.

MUCH OF THE ARTISTIC RENDERINGS CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO

EILEEN KAHN, WHO CARVED BIRDS OUT OF BASSWOOD, MADE CANVAS DRAWINGS OF NAVAJO RUGS AND RELIEF CARVINGS.

BUT PERHAPS THE MOST PROMINENT CON CONTRIBUTION WAS THE PAINTING OF THE LARGE INTERIOR MURAL THAT IS THE FOCUS POINT OF THE ALTAR AREA.

THE CHAPEL IS APPROXIMATELY, AS I SAID, 800 SQUARE FEET, UH, WITH NINE LEATHER PEWS THAT SEAT ABOUT 36 PEOPLE.

THE FLOOR OF THE CHAPEL CONSISTS OF HANDHELD, OH, I'M SORRY, I'M, EXCUSE ME, HAND-LAID GOLD BRONZE TILE, WHICH LEADS YOUR EYE TO THE ORNATE BACK WALL THAT IS DOMINATED BY CON'S, 11 BY 12 FOOT PAINTED MURAL, WHICH CONTAINS A PORTRAIT OF ST.

AUGUSTINE, POPE PIUS 10, UH, BONAVENTURE, SAMUEL PETER AND JOHN THE BAPTIST, WITH JESUS CHRIST FLOATING ABOVE THEM.

THE CHAPEL IS FURTHER ADORNED WITH CUSTOM STAINED GLASS WINDOWS CREATED BY DEAN SEBECK, WHO FIRST RE RESEARCHED THE STAINED GLASS AND SPANISH ARCHITECTURE.

IT IS SAID THAT SHE WANTED, AND I'M SORRY, THAT WAS DEANNA.

UH, IT SAID THAT SHE WANTED TO BRING THIS SPIRITUAL FEELING OF BEING OUTSIDE INTO THE CHAPEL AND CHOSE A COLOR PALETTE INSPIRED BY THE NATURAL SURROUNDINGS OF SEDONA.

THE GLASS ITSELF IS HAND-BLOWN FROM GERMANY.

AND ON THE OUTSIDE, IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE, YOU'VE SEEN THOSE BEAUTIFUL HAND CARBS, SPANISH DOORS, THE ELABORATE WROUGHT IRON GATES, AND THE CROSS TOPPED BELL TOWER.

UM, THE CONDITION OF THE CHAPEL IS SAID TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT.

UM, AND THE FULL EVALUATION OF THE BUILDING FOR HISTORIC INTEGRITY AND CONSISTENCY WITH THE LANDMARK CRITERIA, UH, IS PART OF THE ATTACHED LETTER FROM NANCY BURGESS.

PRES PRESERVATION CONSULTANT, CONSULTANT, UH, AND DATED 12 28 23 STAFF IS SUPPORTED OF THE DESIGNATING OF DESIGNATING CHAPEL AT TILLOCK AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK.

ACCORDINGLY, STAFF RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF CASE NUMBER HPC DASH 0 0 0 0 1, BASED UPON THE CONSISTENCY WITH HISTORIC LANDMARK EVALUATION CRITERIA OUTLINED IN THE SEDONA LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE.

VICTOR MUELLER AND CONSTRUCTED BY ARCHITECT BUILDER LYNN DAVID GROOMS CONSTRUCTION WAS COMPLETED IN 1978 AND BECAME KNOWN IN THE COMMUNITY AS THE KIVA HOUSE DUE TO THE ROUND TOWER LIKE STRUCTURE IN THE FRONT PORTION OF THE HOME.

THE CORE OF THE HOUSE IS A SEMI-CIRCULAR REDWOOD WALL WITH BEAMS RADIATING OUT ACROSS THE CEILING OF THE GREAT ROOM AND FRONT HALLWAY.

IN THE SUNLIGHT PATTERN, THE CORE SUPPORTS AN UPSTAIRS GUEST SUITE WITH CLEAR STORY.

THE GREAT ROOM HAS A LARGE WOOD STOVE MOUNTED ON THE ROCK, RED ROCK FOUNDATION, AND WALL SURROUNDING THAT SIMULATES THE SURROUNDING TWIN BUTTES.

THE KITCHEN CONNECTS TO THE GREAT ROOM AND CONTAINS A CUSTOM DESIGNED WOOD ISLAND TO MATCH THE WALLS OF THE HALLWAY, HALLWAY, AND GREAT ROOM CURVATURE.

THE FLOORS IN MOST AIR ROOMS ARE SLATED CONSISTENT WITH OTHER ORGANIC MATERIALS THAT MAKE UP THE INTERIOR STAINED GLASS WINDOWS ACCENTUATE THE KIVA ROOM AND THE STAIRCASE LEADING TO THE GUEST SUITE.

LASTLY, IT IS SAID THAT THE SPIRITUAL CULTURE OF SEDONA IDENTIFIES THE HOME AS TRIANGULATED BY THREE GEOLOGICAL ICONS, TWO OF WHICH ARE CONSIDERED ENERGY VORTEXES.
